Paris for Shoppers 02/23/07
Maroquinerie Saint Honoré
A client turned me on to Maroquinerie Saint Honoré - she and her daughter were staying just off rue Saint Honoré. Their recommendation was sealed when I saw their purchase: mother-daughter purses (identical color and design, in two different sizes). The antique black enameled building front, which says B BIBERON & FILS, is hard to miss. A wonderful antique piece, it speaks to old-fashioned Paris. But there is nothing old-fashioned about the leather goods inside, except maybe the prices. Rue Saint Honoré is home to glorious upscale fashion - and while this store maintains the street’s high fashion standards, the prices are delightfully in reach of the average shopper. Leather backpacks start at less than 100 euros, and the total mother-daughter purchase was slightly more. Purses range in size from tiny to oversized, and colors are all over the spectrum. Classic styles are the norm, but some lines look like they were sculpted, rather than cut from the leather. This is a great address, whether you’re shopping for souvenirs, gifts, or a style update. Come with or without your mother/daughter. If you go...
